President Donald Trump on Wednesday cheered the election defeat of Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, after the longtime congressman lost his Democrat primary runoff Tuesday night.

"Congratulations to the Dumocrat Party! Al Green, one of the most mentally deficient Congressmen in the history of our Country, has lost, in a landslide, his seat in Congress," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trump also mocked Green's repeated disruptions during presidential speeches to Congress.

"But I will miss that lunatic not screaming and violently waving his cane at me during my next State of the Union Speech," Trump wrote.

Green lost to Harris County Attorney Christian Menefee in Texas' newly redrawn 18th Congressional District by a margin of 68.5% to 31.5%, according to Decision Desk HQ.

Green, 80, had served in Congress since 2005 and unsuccessfully filed articles of impeachment against Trump seven times during his political career.

Green drew national attention in March 2025 when the House voted 224-198 to censure him after he repeatedly interrupted Trump during a joint address to Congress.

Green stood and shouted at Trump after the president referenced his election victory as a governing mandate. Green continued to shake his cane at Trump and refused repeated orders from House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., to sit down.

Johnson later ordered Green to be removed from the chamber.

Ten Democrats joined Republicans in supporting the censure resolution.

Green again disrupted Trump this year during the president's State of the Union address by displaying a sign reading "BLACK PEOPLE AREN'T APES!" as Trump entered the chamber.

Green remained standing and continued displaying the sign as Trump began speaking before the House Sergeant at Arms escorted him from the chamber.

Rep. Mike Rulli, R-Ohio, later introduced a resolution seeking another censure against Green, though House Speaker Mike Johnson questioned whether an additional formal punishment was necessary.

"The point of a censure is to bring someone to the House floor and bring shame upon them for their actions," Johnson said at the time. "I think they showed the American people shame already."
