WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senator Alan Armstrong (R-OK) released the following statement of support following the University of Tulsa’s tuition announcement. TU is lowering its annual tuition and fees from $54,000 to $25,000 to provide more transparency on pricing for students and families, give a stronger understanding of TU’s value, and make Tulsa a more attractive destination for students from across the Heartland. “Tulsa is growing its talent pipeline— and it starts with making higher education more affordable for Oklahoma families,” said Senator Armstrong. “I’m proud to support the University of Tulsa’s announcement dropping undergraduate tuition to $25,000 while maintaining the academic rigor and excellence TU is known for – making TU the most affordable private research university in America’s Heartland. “I built my career and my family here in Tulsa. I am proud to see several of my children doing the same, and I strongly support TU’s commitment to attracting the best talent and brightest minds from across the country to come here and build their lives here, too. Talent is what fuels growth in Oklahoma and across the region. Employers here are competing nationally for engineers, healthcare experts, entrepreneurs, and civic leaders — and TU just made itself far more reachable for the students who dream to step into those careers, without giving up the small class size and personal attention that make its degree valuable in the first place.” Senator Armstrong concluded, “This worked because the state, city, Chamber, schools, tribal nations, and donors pulled in the same direction — a region deciding together to stay competitive, and a model for what workforce and education policy can do together.” Programs like Tulsa Remote, Tulsa Achieves, the federal Tech Hub coalition, and local employers recruiting nationally have made the Tulsa area a model for attracting and keeping talent. A TU degree launches careers where Tulsa is already hiring, bringing top talent to study in Tulsa and then stay here and build a career and a life in Oklahoma. This announcement from TU brings the cost of tuition closer to what students already pay, with scholarships and financial aid often closing most of that gap. TU enrolls more National Merit Scholars per capita than any university in the nation, alongside a large population of federal Pell Grant recipients. This new price structure is built to grow both of those populations – which often overlap.
