ANDY MURRAY has been given the green light from wife Kim to rush over to the United States with the kids should England or Scotland have a deep World Cup run.

Scotland’s greatest sportsman, 39, has four children aged between five and 10 with his English missus, whom he married in 2015.

The nature of each child’s Home Nations allegiance has not been made public but Murray, like his elder brother Jamie, is a proud Scotsman.

Once he has finished coaching Jack Draper in the second round of the Eastbourne Open, he will find a place on Wednesday evening to watch on TV as Steve Clarke’s side face the mighty Brazil in Miami.

The Scots – who beat Haiti in their opener and then lost to Morocco – need a result to ensure they reach the knockout stages of a World Cup for the first time at the ninth attempt.

If they or Thomas Tuchel’s troops progress, then some of the Murray clan might find themselves on a transatlantic adventure.

In a video chat with SunSport, Murray said: “If Scotland or England get deep in the tournament, like the semis, and the kids finish school, I might try and pop out.

“I have had the conversation. The conversation has been had.

“And I’ve been told, yes, you can do it. Take a couple of the kids. So I will try and do it if they get that far.”

Watching Scotland take on Brazil on Wednesday night will stir memories of the two countries’ last meeting at the 1998 World Cup when the reigning champions from South America won 2-1 at the Stade de France.

Murray, former world No1 tennis player, recalled: “I’d have been 10 or 11 at the time.

“We watched that in our grandparents’ house in Dunblane. I don’t remember too much about the match.

“That was obviously a big deal at the time for Scotland to be playing against Brazil in a World Cup. And it’s been a long time since then.

“It’s great that they get the opportunity to do it again in Miami. It’s going to be a pretty special occasion. And hopefully, they can do enough to get through the group.”

The last Scotland match Murray went to watch was the 0-0 draw at the Covid-disrupted Euro 2021 Finals at Wembley.

Murray, the two-time Wimbledon champion, recalled: “I went with a few friends. It was a good atmosphere.

“It was good. We were celebrating like it was definitely a win.”

Jamie Murray, 40, cannot wait to watch the final group match against the Brazilians.

And he will be keeping everything crossed that his nation can squeeze out of the group for the first time, though they have been disadvantaged by that Morocco loss.

Yet unlike his younger sibling, he will not be able to make a last-ditch trip to the US as he will be working throughout the Wimbledon Championships for BBC TV.

The former doubles specialist, who retired this year, said: “I’d be more excited if I was going. Yeah, it’s epic.

“I think when anyone thinks of football, the World Cup, a lot of people think of Brazil.

“It’s a huge game for Scotland. For the fans, I can imagine the ones that are there and back home are so excited about that prospect.

“And I hope it’s an opportunity for them to get through the group.”
