President Donald Trump on Friday dismissed the feelings of family members whose loved ones are serving aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln amid reports of troubling conditions.

During a press gaggle Friday before the president boarded Air Force One, a reporter told Trump that the servicemembers’ families are concerned.

“No they’re not,” Trump replied.

“That ship is moving right now, or very shortly, and it’s being replaced with another, very similar, ship.”

According to a report in the Military Times published Tuesday, families of USS Abraham Lincoln crew members say sailors have attempted to jump from the aircraft carrier as the deployment enters its ninth month with no confirmed return date.

The reports have prompted bipartisan congressional alarm over deteriorating conditions aboard the ship.

The carrier, which carries roughly 5,000 sailors and Marines, has been operating against Iran since Nov. 21 and was expected to return home in May.

Family members described multiple suicide attempts during meetings with Navy leadership last week.

Asked on Friday whether the deployment has been too long, Trump responded, “not nearly long enough.”

Trump’s comments drew condemnation from administration critics.

“The disregard and disrespect that Trump is showing our sailors and Marines is appalling,” said Sen. Andy Kim, D-N.J.

“What a disgrace,” added the anti-Trump media outlet MeidasTouch.

Jessica Tarlov, the lone liberal commentator on the Fox News panel show “The Five,” suggested that the situation aboard the Lincoln could lead to the firing of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who claimed the sailors “have everything we can provide.”

“This is an issue that is breaking through,” Tarlov posted. “Trump’s response may be what does Hegseth in.”
