Congresswoman Uifa'atali Amata announced nominations of six excellent students from American Samoa for consideration by military service academies this year, following applications from 16 interested students. Some students applied to multiple academies, resulting in nine total nominations.

The U.S. Air Force Academy received the most nominees with five applicants, followed by the U.S. Naval Academy with two, the U.S. Military Academy with one, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy with one.

"Each student has reached this point with commitment throughout high school," the congresswoman stated, adding that "the academies will also consider their community involvement."
