Trump urges Alabama to back Barry Moore as polls show tight GOP Senate primary
“Barry Moore is a good friend, fighter, and WINNER, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next United States Senator from Alabama — HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!” the president concluded the message.
Moore won 39.2% of the vote in the May 19 GOP primary, with Hudson placing second with 25.6% of the vote. The strong showing from Hudson makes the primary tighter than expected despite Trump’s endorsement of Moore.
Polls have been mixed about each candidate’s chances. A recent pro-Hudson poll showed him up by one point in the runoff, while a poll backed by Club for Growth showed Moore with a 17-point lead.
Hudson and Moore have differed over what to do with the Senate filibuster, as Moore has campaigned on axing the filibuster to pass Trump’s SAVE Act. Hudson has offered a more moderate approach, saying the Senate should reform the process into a talking filibuster to allow Republicans to push the SAVE Act.

The support for Hudson lies among more centrist Republicans and younger voters, with the former Navy SEAL leading with his Christian faith publicly in his campaign.
“Thank you, President Trump. There’s no greater honor than having you in my corner,” Moore responded to Trump’s endorsement. “Now Alabama, let’s finish this. I’m asking for your vote, and I promise you I will always put you first.”
