A new poll shows three Republican candidates for Alabama’s open U.S. Senate seat in a dead heat, with outsider Jared Hudson gaining interest from voters.

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore, Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall and Hudson are virtually tied among likely Republican voters, according to results.

“While this is encouraging, the only poll that matters is May 19th,” Hudson’s campaign said in an email, referring to the upcoming primary.

Hudson is a former Navy SEAL who unsuccessfully ran for Jefferson County sheriff and advocates for law enforcement and against human trafficking.

“I’m going to keep traveling across all 67 counties, meeting voters where they are and earning their support.”

Efforts to reach Moore and Marshall for comment were not immediately successful.

Moore is endorsed by President Donald Trump and has mostly been running in the lead for the seat, but has struggled to maintain his lead in statewide surveys by The Alabama Poll.

According to information shared by the Alabama Poll, Moore is picking up an increasing share of likely voters, while Marshall is losing some of his share -- and Hudson is picking up a lot of interest.

Many voters still reported being undecided, with plenty of time for candidates to pick up support before the May 19 primary.

Candidates for Alabama’s governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, most of the state’s legislature and other important offices will be on the ballot.

Moore has showcased his Trump endorsement as a major selling point.

“I’ve been with the president since day one, and when I call him, he takes my calls,” he said at a recent town hall hosted by the Alabama Policy Institute.

Marshall has referenced his work pushing against former President Joe Biden’s agenda and prosecuting crime.

Hudson has also stated support for Trump’s war in Iran, for prosecuting illegal immigration and for regulating social media, and said he’s in a good position to do so as an outsider.

Rodney Walker, Dale Shelton Deas Jr. and Seth Burton also are running in the Republican primary.

Walker told AL.com that he has seen numbers that tell a different story.

“Those polls show a very different aspect,” he said. “It shows people want an outsider and a businessman. I am the only man running who is an outsider businessman.”

According to the Alabama Poll, 600 likely Republican voters said they supported:

Moore: 23%

Marshall: 21%

Hudson: 19%

Walker: 3%

Undecided: 35%

The poll was conducted March 24-26, 2026 and has a 4% margin of error.
