New Jared Hudson poll says he has edge over Trump-endorsed Barry Moore in US Senate race
A new poll has early signals for Alabama’s competitive U.S. Senate race, which will go to a runoff in June.
Republican U.S. Rep. Barry Moore took the lead in primary results over Jared Hudson, a former Navy SEAL and local sheriff’s candidate.
But a new poll conducted by Remington Research Group shows favorable results for Hudson, especially among Republican voters who consider themselves to be more moderate.
The poll was conducted on behalf of the Alabama Conservatives PAC, which is aligned with Hudson’s campaign. The PAC has spent more than $1 million so far this year to support him.
According to the poll, Hudson leads Moore among
conservative women (43%),
moderate Republicans (55%),
and somewhat conservative voters (43%).
Respondents said they were more likely to vote for Moore if they were:
“Trump” Republicans, (56%)
and very conservative voters (47%)
Moore is endorsed by President Donald Trump, who renewed his praise for the candidate just before the primary.
A key question for the election has been how people who previously supported Steve Marshall and other Senate candidates will shift their vote.
The runoff is June 16.
The winner will face the winner of the Democratic runoff in the general election in November.
