Rep. Beth Van Duyne, R-Texas, told Newsmax on Tuesday that Congress must act in the wake of the Supreme Court's ruling that upheld the citizenship clause of the 14th Amendment.

"I don't think anybody could have foreseen a Chinese nationalist using this as an opportunity to be able to get dual citizenship," Van Duyne said on "Ed Henry: The Big Take."

"And we do have to close that barrier," Van Duyne added.

Van Duyne said many expectant women come to the country about to give birth so their children can be U.S. citizens.

"We have got to be able to fix it. Harry Reid back in the 1990s, who saw this as a problem, but you've also had Congress, who has been able to identify there are fixes that we can do," Van Duyne said, referring to the late former Senate Democrat from Nevada.

"After this Supreme Court ruling, you're going to see this coming up in the next several weeks," Van Duyne added.

Van Duyne asserted that millions of people are paid to bring pregnant women to the United States so they can give birth here.

"This is an entire industry taking advantage of our Constitution and using it against us," Van Duyne said. "This is never the intent of that law. This is never the intent of that amendment."

"This has got to be stopped," Van Duyne added. "Congress has an ability to do that."

The lawmaker said Congress could amend the Constitution or pass something else through both the House and Senate.

"You're going to see a number of different bills that are coming out of the House that will be voted out of the House, that will be sent to the Senate to do exactly that, which will close this obvious and very dangerous loophole," Van Duyne said.
