Louisiana Sen. Cassidy fires back at Trump over SAVE America Act post
Louisiana GOP Sen. Bill Cassidy on Monday responded to President Donald Trump on X after the president criticized him on TRUTH Social regarding the SAVE America Act.
In a lengthy post on TRUTH Social, Trump laid out the SAVE America legislation which states voters have to show photo ID to vote, show proof of citizenship and there can't be any mail-in ballots minus some exceptions.
“There is no excuse for a politician, or otherwise, to be against the above three requirements,” Trump said. “There is only one reason to oppose — CHEATING! The House of Representatives has approved this vital Act, THREE TIMES.”
He went on to slam some Republican senators for not supporting the bill.
“The United States Senate seems unable to do so. In a time when there is a powerful Communist Movement taking place in our Country, one more dangerous than World War I, World War II, Pearl Harbor, or September 11th, all Dumocrats, and our five Republican Senate Hold Outs, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Thom Tillis, Bill Cassidy, and Mitch McConnell must vote to SAVE OUR COUNTRY,” Trump said.
Cassidy responded to Trump by saying he is a cosponsor of the latest version of the SAVE America Act.
“Mr. President, I don’t know which version of the SAVE America Act you’re referring to, but I am a cosponsor and support the latest version,” he said. “I don’t know which staffer misled you, but thank you for your attention to this matter!!”
He also slammed Trump for postponing the signing of the housing bill over the SAVE Act.
“Btw, it’s irresponsible to postpone signing the Housing bill due to the SAVE Act,” Cassidy wrote. “We need to start delivering relief to people for the high cost of housing ASAP!!”
