Two House Republicans to meet with the leader of Taiwan's Beijing-friendly opposition party

Two leading House Republicans are meeting with Taiwan’s opposition leader as she travels to Washington this week. House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Brian Mast and Rep. Young Kim are sitting down with Cheng Li-wun, leader of the Kuomingtang Party, which supports peaceful reunification with Beijing. Mast said in an interview that as Foreign Affairs chairman, “I take intelligence from anywhere I can get." Meanwhile, Kim plans to encourage Cheng to support more defense spending by Taiwan. She also wants details about Cheng’s meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in April. Cheng’s visit comes as President Donald Trump considers a direct call with Taiwan’s president, Lai Ching-te, despite China’s objections. Read More
