Delaware Senator Chris Coons was briefly hospitalised on Sunday after a multi-vehicle crash involving a driver who reportedly suffered a medical emergency, according to a statement released by his office. The Democratic senator sustained what aides described as minor injuries and was treated at Beebe Hospital before being discharged later the same day.

The incident occurred after a Delaware motorist experienced what officials described as a medical episode and collided with several vehicles, including the one carrying Senator Chris Coons. While authorities have not disclosed the precise location of the crash or the number of vehicles involved, the senator's office said emergency responders arrived quickly and provided immediate medical assistance.

Coons has since returned home and is expected to make a full and swift recovery. His office did not specify the nature of his injuries but said there were no indications that anyone involved in the collision had suffered life-threatening harm. The accident prompted a coordinated response from local police, firefighters and emergency medical personnel, who transported the senator to hospital for evaluation as a precaution.

Senator Treated At Beebe Hospital After Collision

In an official statement, Coons' office confirmed that the crash began when another driver experienced a medical incident before striking multiple vehicles.

"Earlier today, a Delaware driver experienced a medical incident and collided with several cars, including one in which Senator Coons was a passenger," the statement said.

Following the collision, Coons was taken to Beebe Hospital, where doctors treated him for minor injuries before releasing him later in the day. Officials said the senator is now recovering at home and is expected to resume normal activities after what was described as a precautionary medical assessment.

Authorities have not released further details regarding the driver whose medical emergency triggered the crash, nor have they provided additional information about the other people involved.

Coons Thanks First Responders Following Crash

The senator's office expressed gratitude to the emergency personnel who responded to the incident, praising their swift actions and professionalism.

According to the statement, Coons thanked officers from the Lewes Police Department, firefighters from the Lewes and Rehoboth Fire Departments, personnel from Sussex County Emergency Medical Services, and the medical staff at Beebe Hospital for their care.

"Senator Coons is deeply grateful to the first responders for their prompt and professional response," the statement said. It added that the senator felt "relieved and blessed" that, based on available information, no one appeared to have suffered serious injuries during the collision.

Investigators have not yet disclosed the exact circumstances surrounding the crash, and authorities have provided no update on the medical condition of the driver whose reported health emergency led to the multi-vehicle accident.
