Cory Mills Faces DOJ Criminal Investigation Amid Ongoing Ethics Probe

Florida Republican Rep. Cory Mills is facing a criminal investigation from the Department of Justice, according to Fox News, which cited a source familiar with the matter. The exact nature of what investigators are looking into hasn't been made public.

ABC News, citing multiple sources, reported separately that the investigation touches on Mills' finances, though further details weren't immediately available. ABC noted that MS NOW was first to report the DOJ probe, and that Mills' office did not respond when ABC reached out for comment.

Already Facing Scrutiny From the House

This isn't Mills' first brush with an investigation. He's also been under review by the House Ethics Committee, which has been looking into claims involving campaign finance violations, sexual misconduct and dating violence, according to both Fox News and ABC News.

Fox News reported that Mills faces allegations of domestic abuse tied to an incident from February 2025, along with a separate blackmail allegation from that same July, in which he is accused of threatening to release explicit photos of a romantic partner. Mills has pushed back against all of it, denying any wrongdoing, and he has not been charged with a crime in connection with these claims.

Timeline of the Ethics Investigation

According to ABC News, the House Ethics Committee voted last November to form a subcommittee specifically to dig into the allegations that Mills broke campaign finance laws and engaged in sexual misconduct and dating violence. The committee issued a statement in April confirming the investigation, which started in November, was still active, and that it centers on sexual misconduct and dating violence claims. As is typical for the notoriously private panel, no timeline was given for when the inquiry might conclude.

Before the ethics probe even got underway, Mills responded to the sexual misconduct allegations directly. In a statement issued last year, he called the claims false and said they misrepresented his interactions, while accusing a former primary opponent in Florida of using the legal system to go after him politically after losing to him at the ballot box.

A Push to Remove Him From Congress

Adding to the pressure, Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina filed a motion in April seeking to expel Mills from the House altogether. Her resolution went beyond the sexual misconduct and campaign finance claims, also accusing Mills of misrepresenting his military service and improperly involving himself in federal contracts while serving in Congress.
