Rep. Dale Strong, unopposed in primary, has $1 million more than closest Democratic challenger
U.S. Rep. Dale Strong, R-Monrovia, continues to have a sizeable fundraising lead in his bid for a third term as the 5th Congressional District representative.
He had more than $1 million more cash on hand than his nearest potential Democratic challenger as of March 31, according to the end of first quarter filings with the Federal Election Commission. He faces no opposition in the Republican primary on May 19.
That is not the case on the Democratic side, where three candidates are vying to face Strong in the Nov. 3 general election. Business owner Andrew Sneed has a large fundraising lead over educator Candice Duvieilh and U.S. Army veteran Jeremy Devito.
Strong’s filing
Strong ended the quarter with $1,282,003 cash on hand. The Strong Victory Fund, a fundraising committee supporting his campaign also reported having $22,726.
He reported raising $335,080 during the quarter, of which, $181,080 came in the form of individual contributions and $154,000 came in political action committee contributions. Among his most notable individual donors include Robert Baron of Baron Services, William Fite of Fite Building Company in Decatur and Breland Homes, all donating $3,500 during the quarter.
Strong continues to receive support from PACs related to defense and aerospace companies with a presence in Huntsville.

Sneed’s filing
Sneed reported having $234,238 at the end of the quarter
He reported $101,773 in total contributions. It was the fourth consecutive quarter Sneed raised more than $100,000, his campaign said. All but $1,100 came from individual contributions.
NFL Hall of Famer John Stallworth is Sneed’s most notable donor. Stallworth donated $2,000 last quarter. Sneed also received a $1,000 contribution from Rebuild America PAC.

Duvieilh’s filing
Duvieilh reported having $6,961 cash on hand. She reported raising $9,215, all in individual donations.
