WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - President Donald Trump said Wednesday he plans to travel to Alaska to campaign for Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) ahead of the November midterm elections.

Sullivan, a two-term Republican, finished second in last month’s primary. He will face former Congresswoman Mary Peltola (D), the top primary vote-getter, in the November general election.

Trump spoke about the race during an interview in the Oval Office with White House Correspondent Jon Decker.

“Yeah I do. I’ll go out there to fight for him,” Trump said when asked if he anticipated traveling to Alaska.

Trump said Sullivan has been a loyal supporter throughout both of his terms as president.

“Dan Sullivan has done a great job, and I will. It’s a long trip. I love Alaska. You know I won by a landslide,” Trump said.

Trump won Alaska in 2024 by about 13.5 percentage points. He claimed that he thought he won Alaska in 2024 by 24 points.

Trump said he did not know why the race was close.

“Well, it’s close for one reason that they have a phony Dan Sullivan. This guy’s a phony. And he was put up by the Democrats, and they don’t admit it, but it’s been so proven,” Trump said.

One of the candidates joining Sen. Sullivan and Peltola on the four-person November ballot is also named Dan Sullivan.

Republicans hold a narrow 53-47 majority in the Senate. The Alaska Senate race could decide who controls the Senate for the next two years.

Trump said he plans to campaign for Sullivan in the final weeks leading up to the Nov. 3 election.
