A male inmate was found unresponsive early Monday at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center, initiating an investigation.

Deputies responded to the detention center at approximately 5:30 a.m. on March 16 after receiving a report of an unresponsive inmate, according to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office. Upon arrival, deputies and detention staff located the inmate — identified as 38-year-old Daniel Morgan — alone in an isolation cell.

Facility personnel immediately initiated appropriate medical response procedures, officials said. Morgan was later pronounced dead. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the official cause of death.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
