Early primary returns Tuesday night show incumbent Rep. Dave Min leading a field of nine candidates in California’s 47th Congressional District, with Republican Jenny Rae Le Roux in second place.

The race for this Orange County seat — which includes Dana Point, Irvine, Laguna Beach, Laguna Niguel and Tustin — drew a slew of Republican contenders: including entrepreneur Le Roux, former Assemblymember Bill Brough, attorney Christopher Gonzales, and businessman Michael Maxsenti. Democrat Hunter Garcia Miranda, an attorney; no party preference candidates Jesus Patino, an engineer; and Eric Troutman, an attorney; and Libertarian Derrick Michael Reid, a geopolitical commentator, are also vying to make it through the primary runoff.

Min was first elected to Congress in 2024, running for a spot left open by outgoing Rep. Katie Porter. He’s a former state legislator and is a lawyer with a background in financial regulation.

“For the past 18 months, Donald Trump and his Republican allies have engaged in an outrageous and unending assault on our American values, our basic rights and freedoms, and our pocketbooks,” Min said in a statement issued Tuesday evening.

“Orange County residents have joined their fellow Americans around the country in decisively rejecting this agenda and demanding an end to the corruption and lawlessness we are seeing today. I look forward to again earning the trust and support of these voters in November’s general election.”

The early returns show Miranda, Maxenti, Brough Gonzalez, Troutman, Reid and Patino trailing Le Roux.

Brough is an Army veteran who has served on the Dana Point City Council and worked as a presidential appointee at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

An attorney and Army veteran, Gonzales chaired Irvine’s Investment Committee. He operates his law practice in Santa Ana.

Le Roux has a background in the energy and financial services sectors and owns Management Consulted, a private tech-enabled services company, according to her campaign website.

Maxsenti worked on Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s presidential campaign and also has worked in the printing industry and for American Standard Corporation.

Miranda is a lawyer specializing in state and municipal law and policy as well as immigration law in a pro bono capacity.

Patino is a process engineer based in Tustin, according to the secretary of state’s ballot designation.

Reid is an attorney and engineer who has run for office, including for U.S. Senate, in the past.

Troutman is also an attorney whose firm is based in Irvine.

In CA 47, 36% of voters are registered Democrat, 32% are registered as Republican and 25% are no-party preference.

The two candidates with the most votes will advance to the General Election in November.
