Randy Villegas Advances to Take on Incumbent in Hotly Contested Race
Democratic challenger Randy Villegas, an educator, was projected to advance to the November general election after Tuesday's open primary for California's 22nd congressional district, U.S. media reported.
Villegas will go up against the incumbent Republican Representative David Valadao, who was also projected to be on the November ballot.
Political analysts consider Valadao as one of the most vulnerable Republican incumbents in the upcoming election, with the control of the U.S. House of Representatives at stake. The Central Valley district map was redrawn to favor Democrats, following the voter-approved Proposition 50.
