U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell’s family mourns death of 12-day-old baby

U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell, D-Ann Arbor, announced Wednesday she had to return home from Washington, D.C., after the death of her family’s “12-day-old daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter.”

“I am returning home to be with my family during an incredibly painful and deeply personal time,” she said in a July 15 afternoon social media post.

The longtime Democratic congresswoman, who represents the 6th District anchored by Ann Arbor, said on X the infant “has returned home to God this afternoon.”

“We have been in God’s hands throughout all of this,” she shared further.

Dingell said she had planned to be present for votes Wednesday and Thursday, but her family needs her now.

“In moments like this, there is no greater responsibility than being by the side of those we love, offering comfort, support, and remembrance,” Dingell wrote.

Additional details about the circumstances surrounding the death of the child were not available in the post or from Dingell’s office.
