Ed Markey and Seth Moulton to face off in first debate. How to watch
Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass. and Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., are set to meet on the debate stage for the first time on July 8.
Moulton, who currently represents Massachusetts’s 6th Congressional District, is challenging Markey in a U.S. Senate race he has tried to frame around age and the establishment. Moulton is 47, while Markey is 79.
Markey has proved a resilient foe, having defeated former Rep. Joe Kennedy, D-Mass., in 2020. At the Massachusetts Democratic Party’s 2026 Nominating Convention May 30, he won the party’s nomination for Senate with over 70% of the delegate vote. But in recent weeks, polls have shown a tightening race.
The winner of the primary, which is on Sept. 1, will face Republican John Deaton. But in the deep blue state, the Democratic nominee is favored to win the general election.
What to know about the debate
Markey and Moulton will be debating for one hour at the 22News Broadcast Studio in Chicopee, MA.
According to 22News, Patick Berry will moderate the discussion and the candidates will field questions from a panel of journalists.
This is the only debate scheduled so far in Western Massachusetts.
How to watch
The debate will air live from 3 to 4 p.m. on 22News Plus. If you live in Hampden, Franklin or Hampshire counties you can also find the channel on certain streaming services, including Peacock, Hulu, Fubo and YouTubeTV.
It will re-air on WWLP from 7 – 8 p.m.
The two candidates are set to meet twice more, on Aug. 3 and Aug. 20.
