DC man who claims he's running for federal office arrested on child porn charges

7News has discovered that a DC man, whose Federal Election Commission forms say that he is running as a candidate to replace DC Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton, has been arrested.

Angel Anthony Rios has been indicted on a federal charge of distributing child porn.

He was arraigned in U.S. District Court on Thursday morning.

His name was listed with the Federal Election Commission as running for the office.

He has social media posts mentioning he is a candidate for DC's Shadow Representative opening.

Court documents show someone tipped off DC police over claims they were sent videos of child porn through an X account belonging to Rios.

That X account was removed.

In the court's criminal complaint, a copy of Angel Rios LinkedIn page is shown, and his picture.

An undercover agent took over and continued the conversation that ended up in the arrest of Rios, and he's been locked up since January.

Rios has been arraigned and entered a not-guilty plea on Thursday morning. He will be back in court next month.

His attorney had no comment.

DC Board of Elections tells 7 News:

"In response to your inquiry, please note that the DC Board of Elections has no record of Angel Rios picking up petitions for the office of DC Delegate to the House of Representatives. The Voter Services Division has further reviewed past versions of our candidate listing and determined that Angel Rios was never on the listing."

7News checked, and his name is not on the DC Board of Elections' list as a candidate for either office.
