Congressman Frank Lucas honored with portrait for leadership of House Science Committee
Last Wednesday (Dec. 10), there was a ceremony to mark the official unveiling of a portrait of Oklahoma Congressman Frank Lucas that will hang in the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee hearing room. This portrait, as with the others that currently hang in the room, commemorates January 2023 to January 2025, when Lucas chaired the House Science Committee. He served as ranking member and vice chairman before that. There is also a portrait of Lucas in the House Agriculture Committee hearing room, honoring his chairmanship of that committee a decade earlier.
Among those who spoke at the ceremony were the current ranking member of the Science Committee, Democrat Zoe Lofgren, who was also the ranking member during Lucas's term as chairman; Speaker Mike Johnson attended the event, to officially accept the portrait and to offer remarks; and fellow Oklahoman Tom Cole, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee and one of Lucas's closest friends in Congress.
