Reps. Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., and Jamie Raskin, D-Md., yelled at each other in a House hearing on immigration policy Tuesday.

At a House Judiciary subcommittee hearing on sanctuary policies, Lawler introduced the mother of Sheridan Gorman, an 18-year-old Loyola University Chicago freshman who was killed while attending the school earlier this year. Lawler said the family is from his district.

Jose Medina, a Venezuelan national with no legal status in the U.S., is charged with first-degree murder and weapons offenses in her killing.

Lawler accused Democrats of showing more sympathy for Renee Good and Alex Pretti, the two Minneapolis residents who were killed by immigration agents, than the families of people killed by illegal aliens.

That remark prompted Raskin to lash out.

"I do feel that outrage," Raskin exclaimed.

"You do not!" Lawler retorted.

"You don't belong in this committee. You should get the hell out of here!" Raskin said. "You don't understand the rules of the committee. You don't understand the Constitution. You're full of it!"

Lawler said Raskin should be ashamed of himself for not opposing what the Trump administration and supporters call "sanctuary city" policies.

The New York lawmaker doubled down in a post on social media.

"It is an absolute disgrace that Reps. [Pramila] Jayapal and Raskin would not even listen to the tragic story of Sheridan Gorman, a constituent of mine from Yorktown, who was senselessly murdered by an illegal immigrant protected by Democrats' sanctuary policies," Lawler wrote on X.

"Sanctuary policies have real consequences, and I will continue to fight to end them," Lawler added.

Jayapal, D-Wash., the ranking Democrat on the committee, criticized Lawler's conduct at the hearing.

"Thanks to Mr. Lawler's outrageous outburst, we will not allow this to happen again," Jayapal said. "This was an agreement between the chair and the ranking member. And unfortunately, you're not able to control your members."
