'Champion of the people': Jamie Raskin backs Alex Vindman in Senate Democratic Primary
U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin became the latest high-profile national Democrat to line up behind Alex Vindman’s U.S. Senate campaign.
The Maryland Democrat praised Vindman, a whistleblower in the first Donald Trump administration and a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel.
“Alex Vindman is a 21-year combat veteran who has proven his determination to fight corruption before and is ready to challenge the debilitating corruption we’re fighting in Washington every day, including by banning individual stock trading in Congress,” Raskin said.
“Republicans in Congress have been acting as a rubber stamp for plundering political elites and their self-dealing billionaire buddies. But Alex Vindman is a champion of the people who will put working families and democracy first. I enthusiastically endorse his surging campaign.”
Vindman played a key role in Trump’s first impeachment, testifying to Congress about a phone call Trump made to Ukraine where he urged an investigation of Democratic opponent Joe Biden’s son Hunter. Raskin notably led a team of impeachment managers for Trump’s second impeachment following the Jan. 6 Capitol riot after Biden defeated Trump in the 2020 Presidential Election.
Now, Vindman is challenging Republican U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody in Florida. He welcomed Raskin’s endorsement.
“I am grateful to have the support of U.S. Representative Jamie Raskin in our fight to crush the corruption in D.C. that is raising costs for working families,” Vindman said. “For far too long, career politician Ashley Moody has delivered for Big Pharma, utility monopolies, and the insurance industry while Floridians foot the bill. I’m not a career politician — I’m running to shake things up in D.C. and put an end to corruption.”
