Crypto Tax Legislation Markup Waits for Bipartisan Nod: BGOV Tax
Ways Chair: Crypto Tax Is Bipartisan or Bust
House Ways and Means Chair Jason Smith (R-Mo.) said his committee won’t take up tax legislation on cryptocurrency without Democrats’ buy-in.
“It needs to be bipartisan, or I have no desire to move it,” Smith told reporters Wednesday.
Lawmakers have been working on crypto policies for six months, Smith said, but didn’t commit to a timetable on releasing legislation.
“We’ve been having conversations, and it’s going well,” Smith said of talks with Democrats, but declined to elaborate.
