Rep. Jim Jordan to Newsmax: Trump Will Put America First in China Talks

With many issues expected to be discussed during his trip to China, President Donald Trump will make "decisions that are in the best interest of our country," House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, told Newsmax on Tuesday.

Appearing on Newsmax's "National Report," Jordan said he expects Trump to confront Beijing on a range of economic and national security concerns, including tariffs, Taiwan, Iran, trade, and Chinese technology threats.

"President Trump makes decisions that are in the best interest of our country," Jordan said. "He's going to do things that benefit the United States of America."

Jordan praised Trump's leadership on the world stage while contrasting it with what he suggested would have been a far weaker approach under Democrats.

"Thank goodness we have him on the world stage," Jordan said.

"Thank goodness he's our president doing these negotiations and frankly, not [former Vice President] Kamala Harris because, you know, Lord knows what she'd be up to if she was if she was there."

One issue expected to dominate discussions is growing concern over Chinese-made vehicles and advanced automotive technology.

Lawmakers in Congress have pushed for tougher restrictions on vehicles built in China that contain sophisticated software, sensors, and internet-connected systems.

Jordan said Americans should be concerned about allowing Beijing-linked technology into the U.S. transportation system.

"This is China," Jordan said. "They're up to all kinds of bad things."

He argued that protecting the American auto industry and national security must remain a priority as China expands its global manufacturing reach.

"America First is about American automotive industry," Jordan said, adding that the Trump administration is focused on protecting U.S. workers and consumers over Chinese interests.

Trump's trip also includes several American business leaders, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Apple CEO Tim Cook, highlighting the administration's emphasis on economic negotiations and trade opportunities.

Jordan suggested discussions could include energy exports, saying both nations would benefit if China purchased more American oil instead of relying on Iran.

"It'd be great if China would buy oil from the United States and not from Iran," Jordan said. "That would be a huge step in the right direction."

Jordan also defended Apple's past resistance to government demands for access to encrypted user data, praising Cook for protecting consumer privacy amid pressure from U.S. officials and foreign governments.

"The same thing exists with China," Jordan said, referring to concerns about data security and proprietary technology protections for American companies operating overseas.

The congressman also voiced support for Trump's proposal to temporarily suspend the federal gas tax to help Americans facing higher fuel prices linked to tensions involving Iran.

"Any time he can lower taxes on the American people, I think it's a good thing," Jordan said.

Jordan said the administration remains focused on preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons while working to stabilize energy markets and strengthen America's economic position against adversaries such as China.
