Map: Where was Ken Paxton's strongest support in Denton County?
The margin of victory for Attorney General Ken Paxton’s Texas-sized – and Texas-wide – clobbering of incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in last week’s Republican runoff election in Denton County was in line with the rest of the state.
Statewide, Paxton’s margin was 28 percentage points. In Denton County, it was 27. Paxton bested Cornyn in 230 of 252 Denton County voting precincts.
Denton County voters gave Paxton a victory by more than 15,000 votes. Neighboring Dallas County, with more than twice the population, voted for Paxton by a margin of only a few thousand votes.

Paxton will oppose James Talarico, a Democrat, on the ballot in November.
Endorsed by President Donald Trump, Paxton has gained ground since the March primary, overcoming a modest preference from voters then for Cornyn.
Texans first sent Cornyn to the Senate in 2002.
