GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Voters on Tuesday, Aug. 4, chose who will be on the November ballot opposite Republican incumbent John Moolenaar in the race for Michigan’s District 2 congressional seat.

Ben Ambrose narrowly defeated Jamie Hill in the August Democratic primary, tallying 32,439 votes to Hill’s 30,946. A third candidate in the race, Clyde Welford, pulled in 9,802 votes.

The Associated Press called the race at 4:36 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5.

Michigan’s 2nd Congressional District is based in western Michigan and includes all of Barry, Clare, Gladwin, Gratiot, Ionia, Isabella, Lake, Manistee, Mason, Mecosta, Montcalm, Newaygo, Oceana, and Osceola counties, as well as portions of Eaton, Kent, Midland, Muskegon, Ottawa and Wexford counties.

A U.S. Marine Corps combat veteran, Ambrose has served as a U.S. Senate advisor and federal executive, leading national initiatives focused on health care and technology and assisting with the development of enacted legislation.

Ambrose earned a bachelor of arts degree in international relations at Georgetown University, a master’s degree in business administration at Johns Hopkins University and completed graduate studies in anthropology at Harvard University. He currently works as a strategy consultant.
