Senate passes major policy bill authorizing $900 billion for Pentagon
The Senate approved a significant defense policy measure on Wednesday that permits Pentagon discretionary expenditures of $900.6 billion in fiscal 2026. The 2026 National Defense Authorization Act, which received House approval on December 10, is now headed to President Donald Trump for his signature, which he has committed to provide. The Senate's vote was decisive at 77-20.
Regarding the legislation's importance, Senator Jack Reed of Rhode Island stated: "We face significant national security challenges, but this NDAA makes meaningful progress toward meeting them. It enhances military readiness, supports service members and their families, modernizes combat platforms, and invests in critical technologies."
