Thune Calls Reconciliation ‘Risky’ as Cassidy Demands Offsets

Majority Leader John Thune said a House GOP party-line bill that would spend as much as $95 billion on defense and other priorities holds risks in the Senate, as calls grow for its costs to be offset.

The complex reconciliation process Republicans want to use for the bill requires so-called vote-a-ramas in the Senate in which Democrats could force politically difficult votes. Thune (R-S.D.) said holding it before the November midterm election would be a “risky proposition.”
