COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio’s Senate candidates are increasingly trying to define each other as the politician who made life more expensive.

The latest salvo comes from the Democratic-aligned group Duty and Honor, which is launching a $4 million television and digital campaign this weekend accusing Republican Sen. Jon Husted of raising health care costs by supporting President Donald Trump’s sweeping tax and spending law.

“The billionaires, the CEOs; Jon Husted decided they deserve a massive tax cut while your costs skyrocket,” the narrator says in the 30-second spot.

The ad also launches days after new federal data showed Ohio experienced the nation’s largest drop in Affordable Care Act enrollment after enhanced subsidies expired.

Enrollment fell by more than 160,000 people, or about 32%.

It’s the latest attempt to tie Husted to rising household costs. Earlier this week, Brown released a television ad calling Husted the “face of data centers in Ohio” and accusing him of backing tax breaks that contributed to higher electric bills.

But Husted has spent months making the opposite argument.

His campaign has aired ads blaming Brown and Democrats for higher grocery, energy and health care costs, and touts provisions in the tax-and-spending law that eliminated federal taxes on tips and overtime and expanded the child tax credit.

“Under the Green New Deal policies, over 20 power plants in Ohio closed down, which created a supply and demand problem that has driven up energy costs,” Husted said during a May interview.
