By next week, Jon Ossoff could find out who his official competitor is in the race to protect his seat representing Georgia in the U.S. Senate. A handful of Republicans are running in the primaries, and there is still great uncertainty. Here's what we know:

Latest GA senator 2026 polls

The New York Times and 270toWin provide the latest results on multiple polls. Both overviews continue to show Collins in the lead, however NYT shows Ossoff winning in the end.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's May 1 Republican primary poll gives Collins the highest odds at 22%. But, 54% of Republican primary voters are uncertain. As for Ossoff's approval rating, the AJC's May 6 poll shows 89% approval among Democrats, 78% disapproval among Republicans, 6% uncertainty among Democrats, and 13% uncertainty among Republicans.

Quantus Insights reported in its May 5 poll that Collins continues to lead with 32.6% of the vote. However, 38.2% remain undecided.

How many terms can a senator serve?

U.S. senators don't have term limits. They can run for re-election as many times as they would like. However, they serve 6-year terms before being up for re-election.

When is the GA primary election in 2026?

Primary Election Day is Tuesday, May 19. If a runoff is required, it will be Tuesday, June 16. The winning nominee will be put on the Nov. 3 ballot to face Ossoff.
