If President Donald Trump confirms reports by declaring Georgia’s two Democratic senators illegitimate due to voter fraud in the 2020 election during his primetime address on Thursday, it will be because he can’t come to grips with Black voters in the Southern state helping to Joe Biden defeat him, one of those senators said.

Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., who is running for re-election this year, called Trump a “committed lifelong racist” who cant cope with Black voters being a deciding factor in 2020.

Trump has claimed without evidence that he lost the 2020 presidential election because of voter fraud. He lost to Biden in Georgia, where Democrats Ossoff and Sen. Raphael Warnock were also voted into office.

While Trump has confirmed that his Thursday address to the nation will center on “corrupt, crooked elections,” reports have surfaced that he will declare Ossoff and Warnock’s elections illegitimate.

If the president does so, according to Ossoff, the president will also be leveling claims at the same Georgia voters who rejected the president’s 2020 campaign.

“Just consider for a moment that we understand the president may be threatening to declare sitting United States senators illegitimate. If that is the course of action he pursues, he is calling Georgia voters illegitimate,” Ossoff told reporters Tuesday.

“From the very moment Georgia voters rejected him in 2020,” Ossoff continued, “he’s been on the warpath because he was humiliated by the rebuke that Georgians dealt him. And he was humiliated and furious in particular, as a committed lifelong racist, that it was Black voters in Georgia who were instrumental in his defeat.”

Due to his popularity in a purple state, Ossoff has been floated as a possible 2028 Democratic presidential contender.
