Though he has already ruled out a bid, one lawmaker is catching up to be the 2028 presidential Democratic nominee among bettors.

Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.), who is running for reelection to his seat in the Senate, is “up like a hotlanta rocket” as of Wednesday, according to CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten.

Based on the prediction market Kalshi, Ossoff has surged to having a 16% chance to become the nominee among Democrats in the next presidential election — up from just 5% in January.

“There’s a lot of interest in Jon Ossoff, not just in Georgia, but nationally,” Enten said, pointing to how Google searches of his name have increased by 300% this month compared to last July.

Meanwhile, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), who has consistently been at the top of the pack, has dipped to 18% from 35% over that period.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has seen her odds increase by 5 percentage points, from 10% in January to now 15%.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris, floated as another top contender after her unsuccessful 2024 campaign, is not included on the market.

But despite climbing on Kalshi, Ossoff directly told CNN last month that he does not have ambitions for the Oval Office yet.

Instead, the Georgia senator said he is “laser focused” on his reelection campaign for his seat.

“Let me reiterate: I am not running for president in 2028,” Ossoff said. “I have no interest in running for president in 2028.”

No Democrats or Republicans have announced their intentions to run in 2028.

On the GOP side, Vice President JD Vance has consistently dominated in polls for the nomination, while Secretary of State Marco Rubio has followed behind.

While on CNN, Enten cited how Ossoff is the top fundraiser this year on both sides for the Senate, with $77 million as of June 30, according to data from the Federal Election Commission.

“Money is what makes a presidential bid go, and he’s shown an ability to raise a lot,” Enten said.
