Jon Ossoff Calls Trump Iran War A 'Complete Fiasco'

Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) on Wednesday called the Iran war a “complete fiasco” from President Donald Trump, highlighting just how badly the MAGA leader and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth have failed the American people and their many promises of a swift resolution.
Ossoff joined MS NOW following reports that several U.S. military service members have tried to jump off the USS Abraham Lincoln amid an extended deployment in the Middle East as a result of the war, telling “The Briefing” host Jen Psaki how “deeply disturbing” that is.

“I think we have to step back and recognize that this entire war is based on lies,” Ossoff said. “They told us last year that the Iranian nuclear threat was ‘obliterated.’ Then they told us earlier this year that there was an ‘imminent’ nuclear threat. Both times, lies.”
The senator continued, “On day four of this war, President Trump declared victory. Months ago, Secretary Hegseth said that all of our objectives had been achieved. The war continues: Iran still has its uranium, [the Strait of] Hormuz remains closed. This is a complete fiasco.”
Trump claimed last year that key Iranian nuclear facilities had been “obliterated” by U.S. airstrikes, only to launch a full-scale war in February with the stated aim of preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons due to a purportedly “imminent” threat.

The president has also declared victory over the country on several occasions since then, despite Iran closing the Hormuz strait, through which a fifth of the world’s oil passes — resulting in skyrocketing gas prices and fears of a global energy crisis.
Ossoff hammered Hegseth last month during a heated hearing before the Senate Appropriations Committee, where the former Fox News host was requesting roughly $70 billion in additional funds for the war, and used Hegseth’s own words against him.

When the Georgia Democrat asked Hegseth if his claim mere weeks into the war that the U.S. had “achieved every single objective” was an accurate statement, Hegseth said it “certainly” was — and that he had overseen a “historic military victory” over Iran.
The war has already cost at least 18 U.S. military service members and more than 3,000 Iranians their lives, including dozens of children killed in an airstrike on a girls school.
