Rep. Josh Gottheimer, D-N.J., told Newsmax on Tuesday that rising antisemitism in American culture is being promoted in politics and supercharged by social media platforms that spread hate online to younger audiences.

Appearing on "The Record With Greta Van Susteren," Gottheimer said extremists on both the far left and far right must be rejected, naming left-wing streamer Hasan Piker and conservative commentator Candace Owens.

"There should be no room for any of this in our politics," he said. "No room for hate."

Gottheimer recently wrote a New York Times opinion piece titled, "I'm a Democrat. My Party Has a Double Standard on Antisemitism."

He told host Greta Van Susteren he is frustrated that elected Democrats continue to appear with Piker and help amplify his message.

"You have candidates campaigning with him," Gottheimer said. "You have elected officials — members of Congress and the Senate — going on his show and giving him a platform for hate."

He criticized Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., for associating with Piker despite the streamer's past attacks on Jews.

"Having somebody who's Jewish — Sen. Sanders — embrace that, embrace him and give him a platform for his views is insane to me," said Gottheimer, who is Jewish himself.

Democrats should be clear that Piker has no place in the party's politics, he said.

"Every member of Congress on the Democratic side should stand up and say, you know, 'This guy is not welcome here,'" Gottheimer said. "No Democrat should embrace that point of view."

The New Jersey Democrat also stressed that antisemitism is not only a problem on the left. He pointed to Owens and said her views on the Holocaust should also be condemned.

Gottheimer said he recently joined Rep. Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., on a resolution condemning both Piker and Owens, "making it clear that her Holocaust-denying views also have no place in our politics and our government."

"We have to stand united and say, 'There's no room for this,'" he said.

The congressman said antisemitism has existed "throughout history for thousands of years," but warned it has now been "unleashed" online.

"This is just people say whatever the hell they want to say all day long," Gottheimer said. "And then through TikTok and other social media platforms, it's just fed into the bloodstream."

America's enemies are exploiting that division, he said.

"Obviously, our enemies in China and North Korea and Russia and Iran, they have one goal: to spread us, to kind of push us apart," Gottheimer said. "All that happens is America's going at each other."
