Workers remove Trump's name from Washington's Kennedy Center

STORY: :: Workers remove Trump's name from the Kennedy Center after a federal court ruling following a lawsuit

:: June 13, 2026 / Washington, D.C.

:: Joyce Beatty, U.S. Representative, Ohio Democrat

"United States Congress. They are the only group that can make a change to the name. This did not come before Congress. This is unlawful."

"Now, this tarp, that's a Trump thing, you know, covering it up, not wanting the public to see his name come off of his vanity project that he has created. But the American people are stronger. They're better and they're bigger than that. The name will come down and justice will rule."

U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper ordered the removal of Trump's name from the building's facade, its website and other materials after Democratic Representative Joyce Beatty sued to challenge the renaming.

Trump had added his name before Kennedy's on the facade of the white marble building in December, prompting the lawsuit from Beatty, a member of the Kennedy Center's board.

The Trump administration appealed Cooper's order but federal courts rejected requests to pause the name removal.
