How did Dallas county vote in the runoff for U.S. House District 33?

In a closely watched race, former U.S. Rep. Colin Allred defeated U.S. Rep. Julie Johnson for the Democratic nomination in House District 33.

After Republicans redrew the state's congressional districts, Johnson's District 32 was made more favorable to the GOP, pushing her to run in the new District 33.

Former allies, Johnson and Allred exchanged sharp attacks during the campaign even though they shared many of the same policy positions.

In its new shape, District 33 is contained entirely within the borders of Dallas County, running through the middle of downtown and stretching to the north and south on either side.

Allred led in the Pleasant Grove neighborhood, along Interstate 35E and Grand Prairie. Johnson saw more support along White Rock Lake, in Old East Dallas and north Oak Cliff.

The runoff attracted only about 21,000 voters, down roughly 70% from the March primary, according to the Dallas County Elections Department.
