Rep. Dan Goldman nets endorsement of trio of former NYC council speakers

Rep. Dan Goldman is slated to announce the backing of former New York City Council Speakers Adrienne Adams, Christine Quinn and Gifford Miller on Wednesday in his quest for re-election.

Other past speakers, including Melissa Mark-Viverito and Corey Johnson, and current Speaker Julie Menin have not yet weighed in on the race, though Menin, a moderate Democrat, has appeared alongside Goldman during the primary race.

“With the future of New York and our entire democracy at stake, we need fighters like Dan Goldman in Washington who put working families first,” Adams, who’s currently running for lieutenant governor on Gov. Hochul’s ticket, said in a statement.

“When Democrats take back the House this November, we need Dan in Congress to curtail the Trump administration’s lawlessness and corruption and get real results for all New Yorkers.”

The endorsements came after first quarter fundraising numbers show Goldman trouncing challenger Brad Lander in cash on hand, raking in more than twice as much money.

Lander has mounted a primary challenge from the left after his unsuccessful run for mayor last year. He’s nabbed the support of Mayor Mamdani and unions 32BJ SEIU, UniteHere100 and CWA.

Lander’s campaign has hit Goldman for his support of Israel and framed him as too traditional. A spokesperson for Lander used the endorsements of Rep. Nancy Pelosi and former Comptroller Scott Stringer against him.

“Time and again, Dan is making clear that he stands with the establishment,” a spokesperson for Lander said. “From Pelosi and Stringer to Adams and Quinn, Dan is standing with exactly the type of status-quo politicians that Democrats are overwhelmingly rejecting.”
