House Republican explains why she sat on left side of chamber during State of the Union

Chuck Schumer Says Trump's State Of Union Shows He's In A State Of Delusion, GOP Calls The Speech 'Compelling'

President Donald Trump used Tuesday night's record-length State of the Union address to press his economic agenda and defend military pressure on Iran, and the immediate political reaction split sharply along party lines, with Republicans hailing a comeback narrative and Democrats calling it divorced from everyday costs. Warren, Schumer Rip Speech As Delusional Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) blasted the president on X as he spoke, writing , "Donald Trump is the most corrupt president in our nation’s history." She also faulted Trump for not addressing child care and accused him of misleading Americans on prices and tariffs in a series of posts. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) framed the speech as detached from household realities, writing on X, "The State of the Union address revealed Donald Trump is in a State of Delusion," and accusing Trump of ignoring "higher costs, unaffordable housing, more chaos, and more corruption." GOP Applauds ‘America Is Back’ Pitch Republicans offered a near-mirror image. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) praised the address as "A compelling speech" and declared, "America is back," while arguing Democrats "took the bait every time." Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said he was "proud" of victories Trump cited, including "No Tax on Tips"

Al Green escorted out of State of the Union after physical confrontations with Republicans

The State of the Union quickly got physical on Tuesday, when Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) mounted yet another protest from inside the House chamber that prompted multiple Republicans to confront him. Why it matters: The demonstration resulted in Green getting escorted out of the House chamber, the second time in as many years he has been ejected from a Trump speech to Congress. Green notoriously heckled Trump relentlessly at the start of his 2025 speech to a joint session of Congress, which was rocked by Democratic heckling and walkouts throughout. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) had repeatedly urged his members in the run-up to the speech to maintain decorum, with lawmakers specifically instructed not to bring signs. What happened: As Trump entered the chamber, Green held up a sign reading "BLACK PEOPLE AREN'T APES!" and remained standing as Trump began his speech. Numerous Republican lawmakers walked over to Green to confront him verbally, with Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) attempting to snatch the sign out of his hand. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) also attempted to pull the sign down. Mullin and Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kan.) then tried to block Trump's view of Green, who was eventually escorted out

Republicans Smear Nancy Pelosi About Her State at Trump’s Speech

Donald Trump’s Republican National Committee (RNC) smeared House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as being “drunk”at his State of the Union address. The RNC’s research arm, RNC Research, posted on X in response to a photo of Pelosi during Trump’s first official State of the Union address of his second term. The image, which circulated widely on the platform, showed Pelosi seated and listening as Trump spoke. The Libs of TikTok account, which has more than 4.6 million followers on X, initially shared the image and asked followers to “Caption this.” Read more at The Daily Beast.

Trump’s State of the Union Was a Trap — and Democrats Walked Right Into It

The defining moment of President Donald Trump’s State of the Union came in a pause. “One of the great things about the State of the Union,” he said, “is how it gives Americans the chance to see clearly what their representatives really believe.” Then he issued the challenge: stand if you agree that the first duty of the government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens.

Democrats Win Three Big Elections During Trump’s State of the Union

While President Trump ranted about tariffs, immigration, and hockey at his State of the Union address Tuesday night, Democrats were celebrating three local election victories in crucial swing states. Ana Tiburcio of Alleghany County and Jennifer Mazzocco of Lehigh County were elected as Pennsylvania state representatives on Tuesday, securing a Democratic majority in the state legislature—a huge win for Governor Josh Shapiro. “Congratulations to Representatives-Elect Ana Tiburcio and Jen Mazzocco on winning tonight and joining our House Democratic majority! I’ll see you both at the Capitol as we keep working to get stuff done and protect our freedoms and democracy here in Pennsylvania,” Shapiro wrote . “Folks are fired up across our Commonwealth—and ready to win up and down the ballot this November.” And in Maine, Scott Harriman defeated Republican Janet Beaudoin and further cemented Democrats’ hold on the state House. “Another Tuesday, another defiant round of wins for state legislative Democrats,” Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams wrote in a press release . “The split screen tonight couldn’t be starker: As President Trump drones on and tries to cover up his agenda that’s left working families behind, Democrats are winning elections .”

Minneapolis Woman Targeted by ICE Arrested at Trump State of the Union

Aliya Rahman probably thought she was done getting arrested when she attended Donald Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday. Rahman, a U.S. citizen with autism and a traumatic brain injury, was previously detained by ICE while on her way to a medical appointment in Minneapolis. After stopping her car due to a traffic jam caused by ICE agents, Rahman was dragged from the car and pulled out of her vehicle, getting dangerously tangled in her seatbelt. She later stated that she blacked out in her holding cell. Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar made Rahman one of her four guests to the State of the Union address. The other three guests were also Minnesotans who had been targeted by ICE agents, or who had helped protect their communities from the havoc. But an hour into the event, Rahman was again arrested , this time by the Capitol Police for “disruption of Congress.” It’s unclear exactly what Rahman said or did before being detained. “All State of the Union tickets clearly explain that demonstrating is prohibited,” the Capitol Police said . “At approximately 10:07 p.m., a person in the House Gallery started demonstrating during tonight’s State of the Union Address. Poll: Graham widens lead over Mills in U.S. Senate race

(The Center Square) — Oyster fisherman and political newcomer Graham Platner has widened a lead over Gov. Janet Mills in Maine's Democratic primary race for U.S. Senate, according to a new independent poll. The poll by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center, released on Tuesday, found 64% say they would vote for Platner if the primary were held today, compared to 25% who say they would vote for Mills. Only 6% said they were undecided. A poll released by the center in October showed Platner with a 58% to 24% lead over Mills, with 14% undecided. Platner, a former-Marine making his first run for elected office, is also far more popular than the governor among likely Democratic voters, with a 71% favorability compared to 51% for Mills, according to the latest poll. Platner jumped into the race in August with support from progressives including Democratic Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who argues that the political newcomer is the party's best shot at defeating incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. Susan Collins next year and regaining control of the U.S. Senate. Mills, 77, a two-term governor and former attorney general, jumped into the race in October. She is prevented from seeking another term.

Trump's handlers kept his 'lunacy' hidden at SOTU until casual viewers tuned out: analyst

Someone inside President Donald Trump's team pulled off a slick bait-and-switch at Tuesday's State of the Union, according to Amanda Marcotte's latest analysis in Slate.
