King-Hinds Introduces Bill to Expand VA Travel Benefits for Pacific Veterans
Congresswoman Kimberlyn King-Hinds has introduced HR 9316, the "Travel Assistance for Veterans in Medical Deserts Act," aimed at expanding Department of Veterans Affairs travel reimbursements. The bill targets veterans in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and the Freely Associated States who currently lack access to nearby VA medical facilities.
Under existing rules, reimbursement typically requires "a service-connected disability rating of 30% or higher." King-Hinds's proposal would broaden eligibility for veterans in territories and associated states when no local VA facility exists, reducing barriers to care access.
