Colorado Representative Lauren Boebert is supporting her son on Monday amid charges that he sexually exploited a child two years ago.

The Republican lawmaker released a statement after Tyler J. Boebert, 21, was arrested Sunday in Colorado's Garfield County on five felony counts, including sexual exploitation of a child to induce or entice, sexual exploitation of a child involving video and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

"I love my son," Lauren Boebert told Newsweek in a statement. "We take these allegations very seriously and pray for everyone affected during this challenging time."

Additional details of the accusations, which involve an alleged incident in early 2024, were not immediately available. An unredacted affidavit will be provided in a "couple of days," Garfield County Clerk of Court officials wrote in a message.

Court records obtained Monday by Newsweek indicate the Garfield County Sheriff's Office arrested Tyler Boebert on Sunday. He was later released after posting a $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to court on August 19, records show.

Joseph Gavaldon, an attorney who has previously represented Tyler Boebert on separate charges, did not immediately return a message from Newsweek seeking comment on Monday. Attempts to reach Boebert directly were unsuccessful.

The felony charges are the latest legal woes facing Boebert, who was charged with misdemeanor child abuse in February after his 2-year-old son wandered out of his mother's Colorado home. The third-term lawmaker later said there was "no excuse" for the incident.

"A kind woman quickly and safely secured him, and authorities were called as a precaution," she told 9NEWS in February.

The congresswoman also acknowledged her son's "public challenges" following an arrest last year connected to a rash of vehicle and credit card thefts.

"I love my son Tyler, who has been through some very difficult, public challenges for a young man and the subject of attention that he didn’t ask for," Lauren Boebert told The Denver Post in February 2024. "It breaks my heart to see my child struggling and in this situation, especially when he has been provided multiple opportunities to get his life on track. I will never give up on him and I will continue to be there for him."

Tyler Boebert later pleaded guilty to attempted identity theft as part of a plea and reportedly received probation.

Lauren Boebert, 39, who represents Colorado's 4th congressional district, is a mother of four boys: Tyler, Brody, Kayden and Roman, according to her official biography. She divorced her husband of 17 years, Jayson Boebert, in late 2023. Tyler's son, the congresswoman's only grandchild, was born earlier that year.
