Colorado GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert spoke out against mass surveillance and flock cameras amid the conversations about Flock Safety.

“Companies such as Flock Safety have rightly drawn public attention for their widespread deployment of these systems, yet they are far from alone,” Boebert wrote in an op-ed for the Daily Caller. “Many vendors manufacture and sell this technology, and the problem is bigger than any single firm.”

She said that flock cameras and surveillance should not be a partisan issue.

“I am not arguing against useful technology in legitimate investigations,” she continued. “Targeted, warrant-based use of license plate data can help solve crimes and protect the public. What must be rejected is the quiet acceptance of fixed, always-on camera networks that treat every driver as a potential subject whose movements must be logged ‘just in case.’”

It was reported earlier this week that the state of Florida would be getting rid of permits for flock cameras on state roads.

Recent investigations found that there was misuse of flock cameras by police, including officers who were accused of using the system for personal surveillance.

Flock Safety has come out and said changes will be made as a result of the investigations.

The new changes mandate that officers have to tie every vehicle to a specific criminal case and offense type. Flock will also be required to send out its automated auditing system across all law enforcement customers to flag unusual searches.

“I stand with law enforcement,” Boebert’s op-ed concluded. “I stand even more firmly with the Constitution. Continuous tracking of free Americans without warrant and without democratic consent fails that test.”
