U.S. Rep. Lisa McClain, R-Bruce Township, took to social media to comment on the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold state laws barring transgender girls and women from playing on school athletic teams.

The court’s six-justice conservative majority ruled Tuesday that state bans in Idaho and West Virginia do not violate the Constitution, as reported by the Associated Press.

The court unanimously agreed that barring transgender girls and women also doesn’t conflict with the federal law known as Title IX, which prohibits sex discrimination in education.

McClain, a Republican who represents Michigan’s 9th Congressional District, has previously been vocal about transgender women and girls participating in women’s sports, referring to it as “bullying to cheat women” out of their place on the podium.

She has made appearances since the beginning of the year at various rallies for fairness in women’s sports.

“I’m super excited about the Supreme Court rulings today that actually protect girls,” she stated in a June 30 video post to X. “They keep men out of women’s sports. Can you believe that got all the way to the Supreme Court? At the end of the day, it was a victory as a mom and a coach. It is exciting for our girls.”

The ability of transgender athletes to compete on female high school sports teams in Michigan remains unchanged for now in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling.

McClain became the fourth-highest-ranking Republican in the U.S. House when she was elected chair of the House Republican Conference in 2024.

Historically, the position has been one charged with helping to shape the Republican Party’s messaging. McClain was endorsed by President Donald Trump in 2022.
