Ohio Democratic Rep. Marcy Kaptur was hospitalized on Sunday morning after being involved in an alleged "hit-skip" crash on her way to church near Toledo.

The Toledo Police Department said the vehicle Kaptur, 80, was in was struck, also injuring her driver.

Kaptur's injuries were described as "not life-threatening" by police and she remains in stable condition.

"This morning Congresswoman Kaptur was a passenger in a vehicle on her way to a church service when the car she was traveling in was struck," a statement from Kaptur's X account read. "She is active, alert, and being treated for non-life-threatening injuries."

Kaptur's office said they look forward to additional information from Toledo PD as they investigate the incident.

Congresswoman Kaptur is thankful for the quick actions of first responders from Toledo Police and Fire Departments who arrived promptly on scene, and the medical professionals helping to take care of those involved in the crash."

Kaptur also expressed her deep gratitude to the hundreds of constituents who have reached out and said she looks forward to returning to a full schedule soon.

Officers responded to the crash around 10:48 a.m. Sunday near North Detroit and West Central avenues, Toledo Police told WTOL.

Police said Kaptur was the passenger in a car driven by 26-year-old Kegan Zimmerman. Both vehicles involved in the crash were impounded and evidence processing is underway.

The driver of the other car involved fled the scene.

Toledo police told WTOL that investigators "have made significant progress and continue to follow several strong leads as they work to identify the driver responsible." A witness told the outlet that the driver of the other car was picked up by another vehicle to flee the scene.
