Missouri GOP Rep. Mark Alford said that the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) could face a federal investigation into the treatment of Indiana Fever basketball player Caitlin Clark.

“These certainly could be workplace violations, equal rights, civil rights violations that could ascend to an investigation,” he said during an interview with “Katie Pavlich Tonight.”

“We’re not calling for it at this point,” he continued. “What we’re calling for is the commissioner to do something, first admit there’s a problem and then correct the problem.”

A letter was signed by 11 House Republicans invokes multiple government departments including the Department of Justice regarding attacks on Clark while she is on the court.

Clark is one of the top basketball players in the WNBA and the league has received flack for how they have treated multiple attacks against her on the court.

At one recent game, player Alyssa Thomas appeared to hit Clark in the throat.

Indiana GOP Rep. Marlin Stutzman weighed in on the incident on X.

“WHAT MORE NEEDS TO HAPPEN FOR THE W TO PROTECT CAITLIN CLARK!?” he wrote on X. “Absolutely outrageous how an attack like this gets swept under the rug with a one game suspension. What Alyssa Thomas did to Caitlin Clark is bigger than basketball. It was an act intended to intentionally harm Clark because of her skill, ability, and stardom. At the very least this act merits an assault charge, especially after Clark had to leave the game injured.”
