Arizona Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly got backlash on the social media platform, X after he posted a picture of himself at a World Cup watch party wearing a Mexico jersey.

“Lots of people out in Tucson to watch Mexico take on England,” he captured the X post. “Tucson and La Rosa sure know how to do the World Cup!”

The post had three pictures of Kelly in a Mexican jersey and taking selfies with a group of people at the watch party.

CNN pundit Scott Jennings weighed in on X.

“Modern Democratic Party: wear another country’s jersey and post a photo of yourself taking a photo of yourself,” he said.

Another X user wrote, “Surprised you weren’t wearing an Iran jersey, senator.”

Conservative radio host Todd Starnes said, “The senator is not a big fan of Team USA.”

Kelly has made headlines for getting into spats with the Trump administration, specifically Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

In May, Hegseth called for an investigation into Kelly after he discussed the U.S. weapons stockpile shortage during a CBS interview.

“Did he violate his oath again?” Hegseth wrote on X in response to the report about Kelly. “Now he’s blabbing on TV (falsely & dumbly) about a *CLASSIFIED* Pentagon briefing he received.”

Kelly fired back at Hegseth following his remarks.

“We had this conversation in a public hearing a week ago and you said it would take ‘years’ to replenish some of these stockpiles,” he wrote on X. “That’s not classified, it’s a quote from you. This war is coming at a serious cost and you and the president still haven’t explained to the American people what the goal is.”
