Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) reflected on his attendance at the Munich Security Conference earlier this year, speaking with several world leaders who he said are “not happy” with the U.S during the second Trump administration.

“They kind of hate us right now. They’re not happy,” Kelly told Hasan Minhaj on Wednesday’s airing of the comedian’s podcast.

President Donald Trump has long berated U.S. allies in NATO and fueled further tensions with the people of Greenland this year after asserting that the U.S. must acquire or control the semi-autonomous Danish territory.

“The prime minister of Greenland told me that the kids in Greenland are now afraid of Americans. Afraid,” said Kelly.

“Children are afraid of us, because of what this administration—” Kelly continued, before Minhaj jumped in and quipped, “Usually that’s only for Iraqi or Afghani or brown children.”

Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen met with Trump-appointed U.S. special envoy Jeff Landry this week.

“We believe there is progress, and from Greenland’s side we are focused on finding a solution that is good for us all, and most importantly that threats of annexation, takeover or a purchase of Greenland and the Greenlandic people does not occur,” Nielsen said after the high-stakes talks.

However, according to Kelly, even if a Democrat were elected to the White House in the next election, world leaders would still wonder who comes next.

“I believe we’re still a country with a moral compass and ethics and can be a good partner and we’re stronger together than we are by ourselves,” Kelly said. “I think that’s the worst thing that Donald Trump has done is he has damaged these relationships. So now we are stuck on an island all by ourselves.”
