Bert Mizusawa has won the Republican primary in Virginia's U.S. Senate race and is set to face Democratic Senator Mark Warner in November.

Mizusawa is the projected winner, according to the Associated Press, which called the race after he secured just over 53,000 ballots, with 29% of all votes cast as of 7:31 p.m.

Mizusawa is a retired Major General with the U.S. Army, according to his website. He has also served within the federal government, including as Deputy Under Secretary of the Army. Beyond that, Mizusawa has also run his own contracting firm and law practice.

The next-nearest candidate was David Williams, who secured just over 23,000 votes at the time the race was called. Williams served as an infantry officer in the U.S. Marines, doing two tours in Iraq. He still serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Marine Reserves. In addition to his military service, Williams served as a diplomat with the Department of State, working in Latin America. He eventually joined the CIA as a Case Officer.

Farington, who managed just over 15,000 at the time ballots were cast, is a Certified Public Accountant who has worked with the U.S. Departments of Defense and Agriculture. She has run her own financial management firm.

Mizusawa will now face incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Warner in the November General Election. Warner is seeking a fourth term in office representing the Commonwealth. Warner has said that if he wins, it will be his final term in office.
