Senators Criticize Meta's Ad Removal Amid Social Media Lawsuit Battles
Meta has come under scrutiny from U.S. Senators Marsha Blackburn and Amy Klobuchar after it removed advertisements from attorneys seeking clients for lawsuits against social media platforms. These lawsuits allege that platforms like Meta are contributing to a youth mental health crisis.
In a letter addressed to CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the senators condemned the move as an effort to protect a harmful business model. Meta's decision followed reports from Axios concerning the ad purge, which has been confirmed by Meta itself.
The attorneys involved are attempting to gather new plaintiffs for ongoing legal actions targeting social media addiction. As Meta, Google, Snapchat, and TikTok contend with numerous lawsuits, Meta has not yet responded to inquiries concerning their decision to remove the ads.
